It was a moment to pause and reflect…
This past Sunday morning was a time for me to pause and reflect. As I sat in church, I knew that the day in which I would be saying goodbye to the congregation that I have called my church family since 1995 was coming soon as my wife and I will be leaving to move to another state.
I was overwhelmed with emotion as I thought of the life events that I have shared with many. There have been many who have had a deep and profound impact upon my life. There were those who stood by me and my family during trying times. There have been many who have come into my life as well as leaving as they too moved onto a new path.
I was reminded of how taking an action on an idea has morphed into something larger than I could have dreamed in that moment.
12 years ago I worked with middle school aged children. I wanted them to understand that their actions could indeed impact others. I challenged about 20 students to help change the lives of school children in Haiti by providing a meal for some Haitian children of their same age. These meals would go directly to a Haitian school. The challenge was to raise the money that was needed to purchase the items and then pack them.
This simple project resulted in 2000 meals being provided for Haitian school children.
This project continued to build as it grew in size and scope. It is now an entire congregation of 1,500 men, women and children who are involved. Each event that is held now involves providing 100,000 meals. Since the inception of this single event, one idea has allowed over 1,200,000 meals to be provided.
Never believe for a moment that your dream is too insignificant to make a difference. That is the message those who have never acted upon their dreams will tell you.
The truth is that your Dreams do matter!
